Four Lessons Covid 19 Has Taught Us; We often classify events that affect us as “good” or “bad”. We only look at our experiences from one side, mold the events and decide accordingly. However, positive and negative are often intertwined. When we have the opportunity to observe the situation we are in from afar, we can see that beauty and evil are hidden in every occurrence. Covid 19, which has recently affected everyone in the world, has brought us some awareness as well as some difficulties.

We understand the value of small details

How aware were we of our “privileges” before Covid? What was a day like when everything was “normal”? Were we aware of our routines? We could take the bus without taking any special precautions, reach work/school by subway, maybe hug our friends. We were having lunch by chatting at crowded tables, meeting our loved ones on the beach, in the park or in our favorite cafes after work/school.

Today we are deprived of almost all of these “privileges”. Only today can we understand how much freedom actually is to walk on the beach, swim on the beach, go to concerts, plays, movies, eat at restaurants and travel.

We realized the luxury of being with our loved ones

Covid 19 has been affecting the world since February/2020. During this time, there were many holidays, birthdays, special days. Apart from these special days, we spent countless days physically separated from our loved ones. Thus, we understand the value of our social ties, communication with other people, crowded environments.

We need socialization; That’s why the things we miss the most are getting together, chatting face-to-face with the people we had a good time with, maybe dancing together and hugging our loved ones the most. What about shaking hands? We are just beginning to realize that even this simple and daily habit is a kind of freedom and a kind of communication tool.

We learned to be alone

Let’s get back to ourselves a little more. When was the last time we were alone for this long? Maybe most of us haven’t stayed at home this long for a long time, maybe we’ve never had this much free time. Sometimes we got very bored, sometimes we felt compelled to be productive and took action.

One way or another, we have been quite alone in this process and have experienced that in a way, being alone is not such a terrible thing. Our character has questioned our choices, dreams and character that we have postponed thinking about for a long time; maybe he started to get to know ourselves better; We may even have had the opportunity to review our feelings, thoughts and habits.

We have become conscious of being a society

But are Covid 19 ‘s contributions only individual? What effect has it had on our social consciousness? Even if we don’t show symptoms, we can act as carriers and cause someone else to get sick and possibly die, experts say. With this awareness, we show that we care about all people outside of ourselves by not going out unless it is necessary and by taking the necessary precautions. If we are good, safe, and careful, we act in favor of the other person. We owe the development of common sensitivity on this issue to this process.

It is not known how long it will take for us to fully return to our old self, but these beauties, privileges and freedoms we have noticed should be kept in the back of our minds. A walk in the fresh air, a large family dinner, free travels, the little freedoms hidden in life are beautiful when we are aware of it.
