What Is Reiki; Many of us live hectic, mismatched lives, consciously or unconsciously. We live our lives under intense stress, leaving deep scars on our emotions, nerves and bodies with emotional ups and downs and complex experiences. In our hectic lives, we try to keep up with the rapidly changing and developing world, and perhaps we feel that we have failed most of the time.

As we deal with changes that are more difficult to catch up with each passing day, we worry that we will get lost in the chaos or we are already lost. As such, we look for solutions that will help us live our lives more calmly and in a more balanced way, and right here we come across “Reiki”, which most of us have heard before or have already started to apply in our lives.

What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a word of Japanese origin meaning “universal life energy” or “divine life-giving power” and is known as a Japanese energy healing technique. It does not treat directly; It is used to control negative symptoms and maintain well-being. Reiki can be considered as an ideal way, method, energy or system to reduce the intense ups and downs of life and gradually develop a balanced lifestyle.

Reiki helps us to harmonize with our outer world as well as our inner world, to achieve a balanced life; most importantly, it allows us to get away from stress and the feeling of not being able to reach. The most basic effects of Reiki are:

  1. It gives a deep sense of relaxation.
  2. It removes energy barriers.
  3. It helps to remove toxins.
  4. It increases the frequency of vibration of the body.
  5. It gives healing and universal life energy.

Let’s talk about its principles. Although there are those who interpret these 5 principles differently, the general focus of all of them is the same: “Today”.

Principles of Reiki

The reason why “today” is mentioned in the 5 principles that will draw your attention is that the main emphasis of Reiki is today. So why today? Let’s think like this; “You will do this for the rest of your life.” How would we feel? We find ourselves under great pressure, responsibility, but “Today you will.” When they say that, we start to relax a little more.

Reiki Principles, with its emphasis today, actually removes the pressure that will arise on us and helps us to adopt these principles more easily. Moreover, even if we fail once or several times, it always offers us the chance to start again and from scratch. Also, when we approach it from a different perspective, Reiki actually refers to every day, even though it emphasizes today. Isn’t every day already “today”?

These principles, which are tried to be obeyed by being internalized every day, can also be applied in different ways. For example, you might strive to adhere to 5 principles for a day or focus on one principle each day. Here are those principles you can challenge yourself to lead a more balanced life:

1. Only today, don’t worry

One of the most common mistakes we make when we talk about the anxiety of tomorrow and the regret of the past is not being able to stop ourselves from “worrying”; constantly worrying about something. Reiki advises us to worry about “today”. We can put our effort into adopting this principle, which we can apply to reduce our stress and make peace with the flow of life, starting with one day.

2. Only today, don’t get angry

“Anger”; a strong word, a strong emotion, and often a strong behavior. We can challenge ourselves today to remove this “bad character” from our lives, which usually emerges out of nowhere and affects our words and actions without our understanding: “I will not be angry.” Let it flow, take a deep breath and let it go.

3. Only today, be grateful

Being grateful is one way to show gratitude for what we have. Being aware of all our possibilities and appreciating all of them helps us to regulate the flow of energy in our lives, to look at life with a more positive eye, and most importantly, to feel better about ourselves. Even if you don’t think you had a good day, be grateful for every day you live, breathe, learn.

4. Only today, be honest

One of the greatest virtues of being human is undoubtedly to live honestly. To present our work honestly, to be honest in our relationships, to be honest with ourselves and our environment… Reiki advises us to continue our lives without giving up on honesty no matter what the circumstances.

5. Only today, be merciful to yourself and others

Compassion is a powerful emotion that fills us with peace, reminds us of our humanity, and is good for every living thing. We can approach a peaceful and balanced life with more confident steps by showing compassion for ourselves, the people around us, animals, plants, in short, all living things.

Although it may seem easy to say and difficult to implement, when we apply each principle every day and not really “just talk”; When we strive to change things in a positive way in our lives, we can adopt all the principles and achieve a stress-free, calm, balanced, “no rush” life flow, the “universal life energy” that we often dream of.
